Relaxing Blue - Tiffany Box Blue

This room was designed by Kathryn Chaplow, and all I can say is ahhhhhhh. I love the relaxing blue and white. Kind of looks like Tiffany Box Blue. Yum. I would love it even without the canopy post bed. Just a regular bed would be equally wonderful.

So fresh for spring. Paint is cheap girls.

Painted Silver Dresser

Every fashionista needs an amazing, dresser or lingerie chest. I love this one that I saw on a blog, (really can't remember where), painted silver. I love this silver color. The hint of metallic is perfect. A mirrored top would be amazing.

I am currently searching Craig's List. I need to do this.

Tutu Desk -- Tulle Desk -- Made

Every fashionista needs a desk. Can you imagine what you could accomplish at this desk? Well this is the desk that started it all.

Black and Spiro Desk.

I absolutely love this desk. However, my room isn't big enough for this one.

So, I have this super ugly wicker 2 door chest that I have had for over 15 years. It originally was brown, and was repainted white about 5 years ago. It used to house a TV and sit against a wall. But, it's height is perfect at 30" and it has storage, so a desk it is going to be.

Yep, it's ugly. See where I cut out for the cords? Nice.

But you know you love it now. I love it. Everytime I walk by this room I smile.

I did it in white, as this is mostly a white room. However, I think it would have been beautiful in black too.

Year's ago when it housed a TV on top, I had a thick piece of glass cut for the top, and I kept the glass as it makes the writing surface good and smooth. I could put pics or whatever under the glass, but I like the clean look.

I left the back of the desk open, as I need to access the shelving and doors to store stuff in.

An old chair I covered with foam and stapled fabric to for looks, and comfort.

The other side of the room is for exercise.

Old houses small closets. Storage and exercise.

No picture tutorial for this desk.

However, it is super easy.

Get broadcloth fabric in whatever color, black, white, pink. Cut and hem to height and length.

3 times the fabric in tulle. Leave the tulle folded like it came off the bolt, and cut into 6" strips.

Now the fun part. I used hot glue. I scrunched (totally technical term here) and glued about every 4 inches with an inch of glue, starting at the bottom, then overlapping. Use a straight edge - yardstick from your hardware store.

Then, I stapled it to the top of the table, between the edges so the staples would hide. So easy. If you are using a table, you could hot glue it to the edge, or staple underneath.

If you sew, you could sew it, however, I don't sew. Don't worry about the hot glue showing, it kind of hides itself in the tulle. I tried fabric glue, but took too long to dry and still showed a bit. As for hot glue, I used the low temp stuff, and yes, It was all over my fingers, and a little hot too.

Make one, you will love it and smile too.

Now to make a bigger one in black for my daughter. If I get to make one in black I will post it here.

Unique Art - Hanging Pictures

These vintage Jean Jansen Lithographs, were my husbands. They were done in 1968, and framed in the 1970's. I love them, and love the worn out vintage frames. Instead of hanging them across a wall, I decided to hang them vertically in my office/work-out room. I love them. I periodically rotate them, so the one on the bottom becomes the top.

Department 56 Christmas Houses

I have tons of Department 56 Christmas Houses. Tons. So, this year, instead of putting them inone large display, I chose my all time favorites and am putting them in small vignettes around the house. This did leave about 20 in boxes in the garage. But, it is a little out of control.

These are on my main desk in my family room. All personal favorites with a story. The tall green row house I hauled all over San Francisco, pregnant. Love it.

One of my first ones given to me by my stepmother when I was in college. I put colored lights in them, love the glow.

A vignette on the wine/liquor bar. No coincidence it is a brew house and a wine cellar.

Have a desk you want to hide? Wow this is amazing. I can see this in white and pink too. But, I do love, love, love the black. What a fashionista desk. Sorry, don't know where this pic is from. It is amazing. Love the glass top too.

Amazing Glass and Saw Horse Desks

I love love love, glass and saw horse desks!! Love them. Enjoy the images below, you could do this. I am thinking about doing this with a black leather desk top, (one that I already have) and some saw horses. A fashion gal has to have a work space.

Fashionable, inexpensive (unless you use glass) and fun. Go fashionistas go.

Mirrored Tables and Purses as Storage

Love this mirrored table. I have been seeing them everywhere. They bring light to a dark space. They even have them at Target. What I also love is these straw totes. Or straw purses. What great storage. Any fashionista has extra purses, or totes and wow, why not display them and use them as storage?

Carrie's Apartment Sex and The City

So my daughter is moving into a new apartment. Her first alone. We were reminiscing about Carrie's Apartment in Sex and The City. Who didn't love the apartment?

The Closet. Showcases her clothing and accessories beautifully. It is a great gray color.

The entry, love it, love the landing strip for keys and mail. And, I am a fan of bookshelves. Good old fashioned full bookshelves. Not those cutesy leaning ones for decorating.

Living room, working room. Love the old vintage credenza with pictures stacked on it. I also love the desk, round table, and old chairs. Very vintage. Anyone can create this look on their own. That is what I love best.

The bedroom area. I love the chair as a nightstand, and the long stool at bottom of bed. My favorite part is what you don't see. The ledge behind the bed, for books etc. That is so very 1950's. I have always wanted that behind my bed, but the Hubs just doesn't get it. Maybe someday. Again, a look anyone can achieve.

Carrie's new sleek apartment, after her and Big break up in the Movie. Simple and sophisticated.

The living area and desk. I love the Parson style desk. Walmart had them a year or so ago, not the best quality, but great for a college student, and my daughter picked up a black one. It has served her well, and if it gets a scratch, just good old black marker touches it up.

Enjoy. And, remember your first apartment, as I help my daughter achieve her dreams and get her first without a roomate.

Not Fashion - But a Great Display Lamp

Not fashion, but a great display lamp. I love putting things on display. This, what I call Alternate Universe Lamp from Target for $39.99 is just amazing. (It is similar to one that Pottery Barn sells for $169.99). This would be great in any fashionista's room, filled with notions, patterns, or any fun small object. Hey, you could even put some shoes in it if you so desired. Imagination, up to you.

Celebrity Closets -- What is your closet like?

Kim Catrell's Closet. This is my favorite closet, as it is more typical of most homes. Even if you had a small walk-in closet, you could achieve this simple look. So why am I looking at closets? Well every fashion lover has to have someplace to put her stuff. Also, my parents were recently repainting their bedroom closet a super bright white, kind of like the one below, and it inspired me to look at my own bulging and dirty closets. Now, if that closet only had a small chandelier it would really be rocking. So this week, I may look at painting my own closets and reorganizing. I did say may!!! I have so many projects I am mind boggled right now. Will definitely let you know.

Christmas Decorating -- Apartment Living - College Life

Live in a dorm or aparment. In college, and not much time or money for decorating. Take this great idea from Pottery Barn. Use pictures as your decorations. You can put these on Wreaths, Trees, or just on a wall. If you put on a wall, use the Post-it picture paper to print, and you can easily remove after the Holidays. If you are using on a tree or wreath, just mount to cardboard, any inexpensive copy of a picture or picture, and put a colored paper mat around it (check the memory book section of your favorite craft store). Then fill your tree with your friends and family. Instant Holiday.

Picture Photo Wall for Your Fashion Closet

I'm all about great outfits. However, I get dressed and never can remember what I like to mix and match. So it dawned on me when I saw this photo wall, what I need to do. Every time I make and match a killer great outfit, I will take a picture and print it out on the Post-It Picture Paper-- (like post-it notes, stick and then remove when you don't want) anyway, print and attach to my closet (works best on smooth surface). Now I will have a record of great outfits at my fingertips. Ok, so maybe I have too many clothes, but can you ever have too many?

Vanities -- Who Doesn't Love A Vanity? - Mirrored Vanities

I know I have always wanted a vanity. I don't have the room for one. However, it seems like it would be so relaxing to sit at a vanity and put on my makeup. The one below is wonderful as you could get natural light while applying your makeup. Love the round mirror, oh just love it all. Every fashion lover needs a great place to put on her makeup, or paint her nails. Enjoy these great rooms with vanities.

I know this is a painted canvas as a headboard. But --- what if you took a great fashion fabric, or old t-shirts from concerts, or tweed from a coat and covered the canvas and made a fashionistas headboard? You could. That would be fun. Think outside the box -- or canvas.
